HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital celebrated the opening of a new Women’s Care floor in Port St. Lucie. The expansion includes a Level II neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), new labor and delivery suites, two obstetric operating rooms, and an obstetric emergency room.
The new unit was created to meet rising demand as the Treasure Coast continues to grow. Hospital leaders say deliveries increased from about 40 per month a few years ago to roughly 140 per month these days.
The expansion also helps address gaps in maternity care after the closure of the maternity unit at Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital. Officials say the new services give families in St. Lucie County more options for quality maternity care.
